Bulky-Waste & Garden-Waste Pickup: How and When, City by City

Before you drag furniture or a pile of branches to the curb, it pays to know when and how your city collects it: to avoid a fine and a street nuisance. This guide details the arrangement in each of 11 major cities, pickup days, put-out hours, limits and fines, and reminds you it is usually better to sell or donate first.

Garden Waste vs. Bulky Waste

Garden waste: branches, leaves, grass and pruning trimmings: tie in closed bags or cut to a reasonable carrying size. Bulky waste / scrap: large, dry household items: furniture, mattresses, refrigerators and appliances, cabinets. Neither category includes construction waste, which is handled separately (private removal / a licensed site).

Garden-Waste & Bulky-Waste Pickup Days by City

Israeli cities use two main models: fixed days (by street, neighborhood or zone: you put waste out on or before the set day and the city collects) and advance booking (no fixed days: you order a pickup via an app or hotline 106). Below is the detail for each of 11 major cities, based on the municipal websites (most re-verified in August 2026; exceptions noted). In every city, hotline 106 is the address for exceptional quantities and questions.

Tel Aviv-Yafo: Pickup by Advance Booking

Tel Aviv-Yafo has no fixed citywide garden-waste/bulky-waste days: the city works on an advance-booking model, "Disposing of exceptional waste or garden waste? Coordinate with us!" in the municipal page's own words. Book via the Digitel app or hotline 106, and put the waste out at the time set in the booking. Jerusalem: Fixed Days by Neighborhood

In Jerusalem pickup runs on fixed days by neighborhood, per an official table on the municipal website. Put waste out from 19:00 the evening before pickup day until 10:00 on the morning of pickup day. Hotline 106 for exceptional quantities. Verified against the municipal site in July 2026 (the site blocks automated checks), confirm your neighborhood's day in the official table.

Haifa: Fixed Days by 6 Zones, Then Report to the Hotline

Haifa is divided into 6 municipal zones with fixed put-out days; collection happens the following day. For example, per the municipal site: the Carmel zone (Ahuza, Carmelia, Vardia and more) and Hadar: put out on Sundays and Wednesdays; western Haifa: Mondays and Thursdays; the Bay and Kiryat Haim: Mondays and Wednesdays. Important: after putting waste out you must report to hotline 106 so the request enters the work schedule. Branches, cut to 1.5 m max and pile together; light pruning and grass, in closed bags; place at the sidewalk edge, away from power lines. Construction waste, window frames, doors and kitchen cabinets are not collected. Check the on-site table for your street's exact zone.

Rishon LeZion: Fixed Days by Street + Online Lookup

In Rishon LeZion pickup runs on fixed days by street, with collection the day after put-out. There is an official online lookup for your street's day (my.rishonlezion.muni.il/street-info). Soft garden waste (leaves, grass): in well-tied plastic bags only; no glass shards or sharp objects that tear bags. Exceptional quantities require advance coordination with hotline 106 and the area supervisor, putting them out without coordination risks a municipal-bylaw fine.

Petah Tikva: One Fixed Weekly Day per Street (Map on the Site)

In Petah Tikva pickup runs once a week on a fixed day per street, with an interactive map on the municipal page where you search your street and get its pickup day. Municipal limits: up to 5 m³ of garden waste per resident; construction materials, up to 10 sacks only (10 kg per sack max); grass clippings and fallen leaves, in tied bags. Put waste out in the afternoon hours before pickup day, at the road edge next to the sidewalk.

Ashdod: Fixed Days by Quarter (Rova)

In Ashdod pickup runs on fixed days by quarter, per the municipal site: Sunday, quarters 11, 12, 15, 16, 17; Monday: quarters 1, 10, 13, the city center and the southern industrial zone; Tuesday: quarters 3, 4, 6, 9, the marina and the government quarter; Wednesday: quarters 2, 5, 7, 8. Put out between 10:00 and midnight on your quarter's day, at the street edge in an accessible spot; garden waste and bulky items in separate piles, no household trash mixed in; not on promenades or main streets (e.g. Moshe Dayan, Yitzhak Rabin). Large quantities, coordinate in advance via hotline 106; the municipal inspection department enforces.

Netanya: Weekly Rotation by Area, 2-3 Items Max

Netanya runs a fixed Monday–Friday rotation by geographic area; find your address's day via the "My Surroundings" page on the municipal site. The municipal limit: up to 2 bags of plant waste or 2-3 large household items, beyond that you need a private container. Put out the evening before pickup day; leaves in bags only; do not place piles under power lines, near water pipes, or where they block pedestrians and vehicles. Herzliya: Fixed Days by Area, Put-Out from Noon the Day Before

In Herzliya pickup runs on fixed days by area; look up your street's exact day by address on the municipal website (note: the city changed its pickup days on August 1, 2026: do not rely on an old schedule). Put waste out only from 12:00 noon on the day before pickup, not earlier. Leaves and grass, in sealed bags only. Prohibited: construction waste (toilets, sinks, concrete, ceramics, drywall), electronics, tires and hazardous materials. Per the municipal bylaw, putting waste out against the times or guidelines carries a ₪730 fine. Hotline 106.

Beer Sheva: East/West Alternating Days, Published Fines

In Beer Sheva pickup follows a geographic split, per the municipal site: the east of the city, Sundays and Tuesdays; the west, Mondays and Wednesdays; the Old City and industrial zones, every weekday (Sun–Fri). Put out between 06:00 and midnight on the designated day only, in a concentrated spot accessible to a crane and on paved ground only; grass clippings in sealed bags. Absolutely no put-out on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays. The city publishes fines: ₪320 for garden-waste violations and ₪730 for bulky waste. Exceptional quantities, coordinate via hotline 106.

Holon, Fixed Days by Street, Put-Out 9:00–23:59

In Holon pickup runs on fixed days by street, with a street-name filter tool on the municipal site. Put waste out from 9:00 until 23:59 on the designated day; collection happens the next day. Garden waste (branches, grass, leaves): in sealed bags only, not loose; bulky items (furniture, mattresses, cabinets): at the curb without blocking traffic, not behind vehicles or trees. Prohibited: construction waste, household trash, and put-out on holiday eves and weekends. Exceptional waste from a move or major pruning, coordinate in advance with hotline 106. Violations draw fines.

Ramat Gan: Check the Municipal Website

Ramat Gan operates an online lookup for pickup days by cleaning zone (as of July 2026), but the municipal garden-waste page renders only in a browser and no further details could be machine-verified. Check your street's pickup day directly on the municipal website (link in sources) or via hotline 106.

Putting It Out Correctly (and Why Fines Exist)

Put waste out only on your zone's pickup day/hours, at the curb in an accessible spot, separate from household trash and not on promenades or main streets. Refrigerator, remove the doors or coordinate in advance. Excess quantity, coordinate with hotline 106 beforehand. Several municipalities explicitly note a fine for putting waste out against the guidelines or on the wrong day.

What is the difference between garden waste and bulky waste?

Garden waste is plant matter (branches, leaves, grass); bulky waste is large household items (furniture, mattresses, appliances). Construction waste is not included in either.

Can I put a refrigerator out on the street?
